The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) estimates the motorcycle collection alone is valued at a jaw-dropping $40 million US (equivalent to $54.7 million Canadian). The raids, carried out by multiple agencies, targeted four residences linked to Wedding, according to Mexico's Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection.
But here's where it gets controversial... Among the seized items were not only the motorcycles but also vehicles, artwork, and what Mexican authorities described as Olympic medals.
Ryan Wedding, originally from Ontario, represented Canada in snowboarding at the 2002 Olympics, although he didn't win a medal. He was later added to the FBI's list of most-wanted fugitives in March.
And this is the part most people miss... Last month, the FBI in Miami confiscated an ultra-rare Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR Roadster, estimated to be worth $13 million. A CBC News investigation revealed that the car was purchased by Rolan Sokolovski, a Toronto jeweler identified by U.S. authorities as one of Wedding’s primary money launderers. Sokolovski is believed to be currently at large in Mexico.
U.S. investigators have also hinted at Wedding's potential ties to the Mexican capital and the surrounding state of Mexico.
