Stroll didn't mince words about the performance gap. "Right now, we look like we're four seconds off the top team, four and a half seconds," he admitted. While he acknowledged the usual testing caveats about fuel loads and car setups, the sheer magnitude of the deficit is alarming. He added, "now we need to try and find four seconds of performance."
His best time of 1m39.883s was a considerable 5.214 seconds slower than the pacesetter, Lando Norris. Even with the usual testing disclaimers, this is a deeply concerning picture.
This is a far cry from the start Aston Martin envisioned, especially given the substantial investment from billionaire owner Lawrence Stroll and the highly anticipated arrival of Adrian Newey as team boss.
