Democrat Chasity Verret Martinez Wins District 60 Seat, Replacing Chad Brown (2026)

Democrat Chasity Verret Martinez secured the District 60 seat in a special election on Saturday, defeating Republican Brad Daigle. With 62% of the vote, Martinez, a member of the Iberville Parish Council, outperformed Daigle, a small-business owner and member of the Greater Baton Rouge Port Commission. The Democrat received 5,159 votes out of 8,328 cast, though all results remain unofficial until certified by the Louisiana Secretary of State. Martinez's early lead in voting grew as more precincts reported results, and she now takes the District 60 seat that became vacant in November when former Rep. Chad Brown, D-Plaquemine, joined the Department of Alcohol and Tobacco Control under Governor Jeff Landry. Brown had served as a representative for approximately a decade before his departure. Despite Martinez's nearly 2-to-1 victory, District 60 is considered a purple area, having voted for Donald Trump in three elections but also supporting Governor John Bel Edwards in his 2019 reelection. Martinez's campaign emphasized her commitment to representing Iberville and Assumption parishes, encouraging voters to 'vote for a leader with a history of showing up and speaking up for our people.'
