And this is the part most people miss... Fils, however, refused to let the momentum shift entirely. He regrouped for the third set, making a fresh start. He secured four comfortable service holds and then seized a crucial break point in the third game, taking the lead after a double fault from Royer. Fils further solidified his advantage in the fifth game with a stunning lob winner, securing another break and extending his lead.
Serving for the match at 5-2, the younger Frenchman sealed his victory with a powerful service winner on match point. This win marks his first since last year's Canada Masters, a significant milestone in his return to professional tennis.
